Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay 05/14/14

I went to go to the Pacifica Pier today, but it was closed. A while back (January, I believe)when I went fishing on the pier, there was a team of engineers doing inspections and I spoke with them and they said the pier was pretty much ready to come down and that they would be doing some renovations on it. But today the pier was only closed, and I didn't see anyone there doing any work on it. I thought this was strange. Anyway I decided to move to Pillar Point, its only an extra 15 minute drive for me and there is usually better fishing there. Upon my arrival, when I asked the others they said they hadn't caught any fish, which is unusual for Pillar Point. I ended up catching 8 Rock Crabs, no Dungeness crabs, and towards the evening I did manage to catch two skulpin. There where also two guys there who were fishing for Monkey faced eel, but they said they only got two, which they described more as noodles than eels. Here a few reminders about rock crabs (b) All crabs of the Cancer genus except Dungeness crabs, but including: yellow crabs, rock crabs, red crabs and slender crabs: (1) Open season: All year. (2) Limit: Thirty-five. (3) Minimum size: Four inches measured by the shortest distance through the body, from edge of shell to edge of shell at the widest part, except there is no minimum size in Fish and Game Districts 8 and 9. (c) All crabs of the genus Cancer, including Dungeness crabs, yellow crabs, rock crabs, red crabs and slender crabs, may be brought to the surface of the water for measuring, but no undersize crabs may be placed in any type of receiver, kept on the person or retained in any person’s possession or under his direct control; all crabs shall be measured immediately and any undersize crabs shall be released immediately into the water.
